If you have a moment to set aside your iPhone and Pokemon GO, I implore you to give this a read! Last May, I gave birth to a beautiful boy. His arrival was pretty exciting considering I was only going in for a routine checkup. It turned into me having to stay so that I could deliver him due to low fluid. I wish I could share the story with you. I wish I had the photos to show. Unfortunately, I let my own fears prevent me from booking a photographer that could do it. My worry was that I would look hideous and unable to face looking at myself. I told myself I would do it but I let my pregnancy hormones talk me out of it.
Don’t be me.
Book a birth session. You only have one moment. When that moment passes, it’s gone. I have only my memories to look back to now. But this beautiful mom will have these precious photos to treasure forever. It’s always an honor being part of the magic of a baby’s birth. Unlike weddings, they’re a little more unpredictable and must have a very free schedule. I have to clear at least three weeks so that I can guarantee my attendance. Then there’s no telling how long a birth might go! It might be twelve hours or just twelve minutes! Birth photography is fast-paced, unpredictable, and a wild ride for a photographer.
In this case, this little girl came quickly! She was ready to come and her birth happened so fast! She was bright-eyed and very aware of her surroundings. And mama was positively radiant with joy. She wasn’t me. She knew she wanted to document what might be her last child. She wanted to get all the feel good moments in and be able to look back at them and remember. And maybe years from now when her daughter is older to have the ability to share the day she was born with her. What a touching experience. I wish I could say the same. I am not making that mistake again.
You shouldn’t, either.
